Whitehaven Beach

The beach is long and open. The sand is extremely fine and reflects heat, so you will want to keep your footwear nearby. The sun is intense, and there is almost no shade along the shoreline.

You will spend your time swimming or walking the length of the beach. The water is shallow for a long distance, which makes it easy for wading. Expect to share the sand with other boat tours during the middle of the day.

The winter months from June through September are the best time to go. The humidity is much lower than in the summer. You avoid the peak of the tropical storm season during these months.

The water stays warm enough for swimming throughout the year. If you visit outside of the winter, the heat on the sand can be difficult to manage. You will likely prefer mornings to escape the highest temperatures.

Many visitors arrive unprepared for the lack of infrastructure. People often expect beach bars or rental shops, but there is nothing here. You must bring everything you need for the day with you on the boat.

Packing too little water is the most frequent error. The heat and the sun will dehydrate you quickly, and there is no way to buy more once you land. Bring more than you think you will drink.
