Walking here involves uneven cobblestones and steep hills. You will spend most of your time on foot, so pack shoes with thick soles. The city is dense, and many of the most famous sights are within a twenty minute walk of each other.

The city feels different depending on the hour. Early mornings are quiet, while the afternoons feel crowded in the narrow lanes near the river. If you want to avoid the heaviest foot traffic, head toward the residential neighborhoods just outside the center.

May and June offer long days and mild temperatures. You will see more outdoor activity, but you will also share the paths with many tour groups. September is slightly cooler and often feels less frantic than the start of summer.

December is cold but feels different because of the holiday markets. The city becomes dark very early, but the lighting makes the old buildings look sharp against the night sky. Expect to spend more time inside cafes to warm up.

You should expect to spend around 3200 CZK per day for a standard trip. This covers mid-range food, local transport, and entry fees to sites. You can spend less if you avoid the main tourist hubs.

The prices in the immediate Old Town Square are significantly higher than elsewhere. A single beer or meal here can cost double what you would pay just five minutes away on foot. Walk a few blocks into the side streets to save money.
